THE ALPHA MARRIAGE COURSE

The Marriage Course was developed by Nicky and Sila Lee, co-authors of The Marriage Book and The Parenting Book. They have been married for over thirty years, have four children and are on the staff at Holy Trinity Brompton – the London church that started the Alpha course. The Marriage course is now running around the world. They have spoken to thousands on the subject of marriage.

What is the Course like?
The course is run over 7 week and is presented each week by a course facilitator who will play a DVD presentation. Nicky and Sila Lee present the topic each week. The talks are interspersed with filmed clips of couples talking about their experiences of marriage and street interviews from around the world. Each participant has a Marriage workbook manual but there is no small group work with other couples who are participating in the course. There are questions for the married couple to discuss during the evening but only with each other.

Many couples describe their experience on a Marriage Course as like “being out on a date night” as coffee and dessert are served at a candle lit table for each participating couple.

What are the topics covered?

Building Strong Foundations – This session helps couples to look at their lifestyle and its effect upon their marriage, and to discover more about each other’s needs and desires – particularly on an emotional level.
The Art of Communication – In this session couples practise communicating their feelings and listening effectively to one another.
Resolving Conflict – In this session we look at how couples can increase their intimacy by expressing appreciation to each other, recognising their differences, learning to negotiate disagreements and praying for each other (if they feel comfortable doing so).
The Power of Forgiveness – This session addresses the ways we will inevitably have hurt each other and how to resolve these so we don’t create a backlog of anger and resentment. The Impact of Family – Past and Present – This session focuses on helping couples to recognise how their family background affects the way they relate to each other
Good Sex – Sexual intimacy needs to be worked at and developed.
Love in Action – This session looks at five ways of expressing love

How much does it cost?
Costs for this course are kept to a minimum. We only charge for participants' materials.

When is the next course?
The Marriage Course usually runs during our Winter term of our Growth Groups. Signing up happens during the month of January and the course begins the first week of February.

THE ALPHA PARENTING CHILDREN COURSE & THE PARENTING TEENAGERS COURSE

“Even the smallest change can make a big difference”

The Parenting Children Course & The Parenting Teenagers Course were developed by Nicky and Sila Lee, co-authors of The Marriage Book, The Parenting Book and The Marriage Book. They have been married for over thirty years, have four children, three grandchildren and are on the staff at Holy Trinity Brompton – the London church that started the Alpha course. They started running the courses at Holy Trinity Brompton in 1996.

Drawing on their own experience of bringing up four children and having talked to thousands of parents over the years on their parenting courses, Nicky and Sila Lee bring fresh insights and time-tested values to the task of parenting.

THE ALPHA PARENTING TEENAGERS COURSE

Parenting teenagers is harder than ever for most parents today yet no role we undertake in life is more important than parenting for helping them to feel safe, secure and loved. We are the main influence on our teenagers’ future. Discovering we are not alone in the challenges we face and picking up ideas from other parents can make a huge difference.

Meeting our teenagers’ deepest needs, setting healthy boundaries, helping them to develop emotional health and teaching them how they can make good choices takes skill and dedication. Taking time to reflect on our end goal can help us to build our relationship with our teenagers now and into the future.

Who is the course for?
The Parenting Teenagers Course is for any parents, step-parents, or carers of children aged 11 – 18 years

The only cost is for materials

THE ALPHA PARENTING CHILDREN COURSE

Children do not arrive with an instruction manual yet no role that we undertake is more important than parenting. Family life is under great pressure today and parents face bewildering choices about how to parent effectively.

Discovering we are not alone in the challenges we face and picking up ideas from other parents can make a huge difference. The course is a combination of video presentation with advice and information from experts. Then there is time for parents to share ideas with each other. Even the smallest change can make a big difference. We can all learn how to make even the happiest family better.

Who is the course for?
The Parenting Children Course is for any parents, step-parents, prospective parents or carers of children aged 0 – 10 years.

Is there a cost for the course?
The only costs are for your materials.
